Pat Barker

Nasceu a 8 de Maio de 1943 em Thornaby-on-Tees, Yorkshire, Inglaterra pelo que completou na passada quinta feira 71 anos.

Filha de pai desconhecido, foi criada como irmã da sua mãe até esta casar, quando Pat tinha 7 anos. Optou por ficar a morar com os avós devido a desavenças com o padrasto.

Em 1969 juntou-se com o zoólogo David Barker, 20 anos mais velho, com quem viria a casar em 1978. Tiveram 2 filhos. Ficou viúva em 2009.

Começou a escrever romances maneiristas que lidavam com questões femininas, e que foram sendo sucessivamente recusados pelas editoras. Conseguiu por fim publicar o seu primeiro romance em 1982, com o título Union Street. Ganhou reconhecimento unânime em 1991, ao publicar Regeneration, o primeiro volume de uma trilogia dedicada à Primeira Grande Guerra. O segundo volume da trilogia, The Eye Of The Door, apareceu em 1993 e o último em 1995, com o título The Ghost Road, sendo vencedor de um Prémio Booker.
